Don't Let Sweater Season Slow You Down!

It's getting to be that time of the year again and I don't know about you all, but I typically start to become more tired and lethargic as the weather changes. After 3 holiday parties in one week, I don't know who wouldn't be. The issue with this is that we put ourselves in an unhealthy cycle. During the summer we're happy, fine and fit, but as soon as it gets too cold to walk to the mailbox, we're cooped up by the fire place, eating deliciously roasted turkey legs instead of taking an afternoon walk around the block. While raising our cholesterol and sugar seems equally pleasing at times [and trust me, it most certainly does], it's time that we raise the bar!

Here are a few healthy and helpful tips to shake off the winter fatigue and kick your self into healthy high gear! You'll be surprised at how much energy you'll have to burn!

4 Ways to Beat Winter Fatigue

  1. Get Some Sunlight - At the end of the day we all need a little vitamin D. Losing out on sunlight in the winter can disrupt the balance of your body's sleep and waking cycles. This is because when you're mainly exposed to darkness, the body starts to produce more of the hormone melatonin, which makes sleep feel more inviting and easy to take on. Even just taking a brisk lunchtime walk can boost your energy, reduce blood pressure and improve your mood.

  2. Get in a Good Workout - I know it sounds ridiculous. When you're out of energy, go expend more energy. Ridiculous! But it works. When you're feeling low on energy and you know you haven't done and strenuous activity, throw yourself onto a spin bike or take a mile jog to get a healthy dose of morning exercise. This helps to release a welcome burst of feelgood endorphins!

  3. Eat The Right Foods - It's much easier to grab a Pop-tart and run, but during the winter, we need to remember to conserve energy and consume nutritious foods. Instead of a sugary donut or pastry, try a bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruit and brown sugar. It's healthy, filling and won't burn off too fast, leaving you tired mid-day, such as coffee or sweets.

  4. Get Your Spark Back With Spark Energy Stick Packs - Spark energy sticks from Advocare have just come out with a NEW limited edition flavor for their natural energy supplement line. The Vanilla Latte Spark Energy stick is a warm contrast to it's fruity flavored counterparts and what's best is that it's sugar-free without tasting like it!
